Request to discontinue use of VOX USB-MIDI Driver on Windows 11

04/19/2026

In Windows 11 (24H2 or later), the new Windows MIDI Service may be enabled through a recent Windows Update. This Windows MIDI Service provides comprehensive support for MIDI 1.0 and MIDI 2.0, as well as other convenient features and performance improvements.

By using this Windows MIDI Service, it is possible to use functions that were not supported by the previous standard Windows driver, such as sharing MIDI ports between multiple applications (multi-client function) and sending and receiving long System Exclusive messages. To provide these features, VOX has released VOX USB-MIDI Driver. However, due to compatibility issues, the Windows MIDI Service cannot work properly in environments where the VOX USB-MIDI Driver is installed.

Therefore, if you are using VOX products with the VOX USB-MIDI Driver on Windows 11, please follow the steps below to uninstall it and use the Windows MIDI Service.

Please try this method if you are unable to use your VOX product after a recent Windows update.

Applicable Windows 11 system versions:
24H2 or later (25H2, 26H1 included)
Windows Update, which includes the Windows MIDI Service, began around the end of January 2026.

How to uninstall VOX USB-MIDI Driver:

    1. Right-click the Windows Start button and select « Installed apps » from the menu that appears.

    10. Repeat steps 6) to 9) for all VOX products displayed in 6).
    11. Restart your PC.

    Cautions:

    • If you reinstall or use the VOX USB-MIDI Driver (including “MIDI Driver Uninstall Utility”), the Windows MIDI Service may no longer function correctly.
    • When using Windows MIDI Service, the MIDI port names displayed in applications may differ from those when using the VOX USB-MIDI Driver.
    • When using the dedicated editor or system updater for some VOX products, you may be recommended or prompted to use the VOX USB-MIDI Driver. Please ignore or do not select this option.
    • Future Windows Updates may improve functionality and fix problems. Please make sure you have the latest Windows Updates installed.
